According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, physicians treated nearly 10,000 injuries attributed to fireworks last year. Of those, about six of every 10 injuries happened within 30 days of Independence Day. Just more than a third of the injuries were sustained by people under age 20. The harmless-looking sparklers caused the most fireworks-related visits to the emergency room, which amounted to about 1,100 of them, according to the report. Sparklers burn at up to 1,800 degrees Fahrenheit.
